On this day 15 years ago, the LTTE (Liberation Tigers Of Tamil Eelam) was decimated militarily. The Eelam War 4 ended with the death of LTTE chief Velupillai Prabhakaran.
And with that, one of the bloodiest insurgencies in South Asia came to an end. The group that specialised in guerrilla warfare had unleashed a reign of terror for over three decades. The LTTE had fought three wars before with the Sri Lankan military and had the upper hand. But Eelam War 4 was different from the earlier three in many respects.
