At least 10 children have been killed by Myanmar’s junta forces this month, bringing the number of children killed since last year’s coup to around 120, according to ‘The Irrawaddy’. The latest casualties include three siblings aged 7, 10 and 12 who were playing under a tree when the junta opened indiscriminate artillery fire on their village near Loikaw, the capital of Kayah State, says Karenni Nationalities Defense Force. The father and 15-year-old sister of the children were injured in the shelling. In another incident in Yinmabin township in Sagaing region, at least 11 people including two children aged 5 and 8 were killed when junta forces shelled a monastery sheltering displaced civilians. ‘The Irrawaddy’ says it has seen photographs of junta troops burning the bodies in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence. The civilian National Unity Government said earlier this month that the junta had killed at least 110 children since the coup.
