Jensen Huang, chief executive of Nvidia, has reportedly agreed to join the advisory board of Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management, according to a report by the Financial Times.

The Beijing-based institution is one of China’s most prestigious universities and counts Apple chief executive Tim Cook as chair of its advisory board.

The development follows Huang’s recent visit to China alongside US President Donald Trump and comes at a sensitive moment in US-China technology relations.

US-China AI Tensions Continue

The reported appointment comes despite ongoing US restrictions on exports of Nvidia’s most advanced AI chips to China.

Washington has blocked sales of several high-end Nvidia chips since 2022 over concerns they could support Chinese military or strategic capabilities.

According to the report, there was no sign of a breakthrough during Trump’s China visit regarding the sale of Nvidia’s advanced H200 AI chips to the Chinese market.

China’s Elite Tech And Political Network

The advisory board of Tsinghua University’s School of Economics and Management was established in 2000 and includes a number of prominent global business leaders.

Current members reportedly include Elon Musk, Michael Dell, Satya Nadella, Mark Zuckerberg, Jamie Dimon and Larry Fink.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is also among Tsinghua’s notable alumni, having studied there as an undergraduate.

Reuters said it could not independently verify the report.

Nvidia declined to comment, while Tsinghua University did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
