“Like Israel Helped During Kargil, India Supports Tel Aviv In Times Of Need”

The repurcussions and ramifications of the Lebanon (Hezbollah) front opening up for Israel and Tel Aviv-New Delhi relations.

Israel Hamas & Hezbollah

It’s been exactly nine months since the Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel. Hamas led an unprecedented attack in Israel on that day. The terrorist group killed 1,200 people and abducted over 250 people, mostly civilians. Israel then launched a war against the group that rules the Gaza Strip, killing over 38,000, according to the territory’s health officials. On ‘The Gist’Anat Bernstein-Reich, Chairperson, Israel-Asia Chambers of Commerce, CEO of the BDO Israel-India Investment Banking group and a ‘Friend of India’ Awardee, 2020 speaks to StratNews Global Associate Editor Amitabh P. Revi.

Israel-Hamas Deal

Ms Bernstein talks about Israel Hamas and Hezbollah. Hamas has accepted a U.S. proposal to begin talks on releasing Israeli hostages, including soldiers and men. Basically, this would happen 16 days after the first phase of an agreement aimed at ending the Gaza war, a senior Hamas official has said. But, the group has reportedly dropped a demand that Israel first commit to a permanent ceasefire before signing the agreement. Eventually, it would apparently allow negotiations to achieve that throughout the six-week first phase. Another key point is U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director William Burns will travel to Qatar next week for negotiations.
Ms Anat Bernstein-Reich emphatically says, “It’s a make-or-break situation at the moment.” While recognising “the north front(with Hezbollah in Lebanon) is escalating,” she feels, “there will be a pact with Hamas, although Hamas is very tricky in the way they behave.”

India-Israel Relations

Above all, she also points out, “Like Israel supported India in the Kargil war and in many other operations, in times of need, India helps us.”
