Trump To Adress State Of The Union Ahead Of Midterm Elections

U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to deliver the traditional State of the Union address to Congress on Tuesday. This comes at a turbulent time in his presidency, with his approval ratings dropping, concerns over the ongoing threats exchanged with Iran, the recent Supreme Court decision to invalidate his tariff regime and the American citizens struggling under the current cost of living as the November midterm election draws near.

This will be his second televised prime-time speech to Congress in the 13 months since his second term began. It offers Trump the opportunity to persuade voters to keep Republicans in power.

Trump To Pitch Military Intervention In Iran

President Trump, who has repeatedly expressed his interest in obtaining a Nobel Peace Prize and endeavoured to set up a new ‘Board of Peace’, now seems to be on the precipice of a military conflict with Iran over its nuclear program. The United States has moved warships to the Middle East and developed plans that could involve a change of governance in Iran, according to U.S. officials.

This speech could offer Trump a chance to make a public case for military intervention in Iran, according to two White House officials. He also intends to tout his record of brokering peace deals, they added. He will be speaking about the fourth anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, a reminder to all that he has yet to resolve a war he claimed he could end in “24 hours.”

Trump will be addressing the Supreme Court’s decision regarding tariffs and will outline laws he can use to reconstitute most levies. When the decision was announced last week, Trump had been furious and reacted by targeting several Supreme Court judges with personal attacks. All nine judges are expected to be in attendance during his speech.

One of the White House officials stated that Trump will “claim victory on the economy.”

He is expected to argue that the Biden administration is responsible for the slowing economy and that Democrats are overstating affordability concerns.

Trump will talk about stock market gains, private sector investments and his tax cut legislation as evidence that he has contributed to helping the economy, the officials said. He will praise his tough border policies and his deportation campaign, despite recent polls illustrating the American citizens’ displeasure with his immigration crackdown.

Democrats Skip Speech For Outdoor Rally

This is the one opportunity the president has where the whole world is looking at what he has to say, and this is his opportunity to summarise everything that he’s done and not go off script,” said Amanda Makki, a Republican strategist.

Trump’s propensity to ad-lib has not gone unnoticed, and he said on Monday that his address is expected to be very lengthy. Last March, he gave a 100-minute speech, which became the longest presidential address to Congress in modern history.

Last year, Trump’s speech was met with jeers from Democrats before they walked out in protest, this year more than 20 Democrats from the House of Representatives and the Senate plan to skip the event entirely and host an outdoor rally on the National Mall.
