Taiwan’s defence minister has warned that China continues to pose a serious threat as its military build-up shows no signs of slowing.
He said Taiwan must strengthen its defences to ensure any potential attack would be too risky for Beijing.
No Immediate Invasion, But Concerns Remain
His comments come after a U.S. intelligence report said China does not currently plan to invade Taiwan in 2027 and prefers to take control without using force.
Despite this, Taiwan officials say China has not ruled out military action and continues to increase pressure through regular drills.
Need To Strengthen Deterrence
The minister stressed that improving Taiwan’s defence capabilities is key to reducing the chances of an attack.
He said if Taiwan becomes stronger, China may delay or rethink any plans for military action.
Defence Spending Debate
Taiwan’s government has proposed a major increase in defence spending, but the plan is facing delays in parliament.
Opposition leaders have raised concerns over the details of the proposal.
Boost To Military Capabilities
Taiwan is also upgrading its military assets, including submarines.
Officials say these upgrades will improve the island’s ability to defend itself and strengthen overall combat readiness.
