Kuwait said on Thursday that its air defence systems had intercepted hostile missile and drone threats, though authorities did not specify where the attacks originated.
In a statement, Kuwait’s army said sounds of explosions heard across parts of the country were caused by air defence interceptions and urged residents to follow official safety instructions.
Regional Tensions Escalate
The developments came shortly after the United States reportedly carried out strikes on what Washington described as an Iranian drone operation threatening US forces and commercial shipping near the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran later confirmed that a US strike had targeted an area near Bandar Abbas airport in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Tehran also claimed it had targeted a US air base at around 4:50 a.m. local time, though it did not specify the location of the facility.
Kuwait, which hosts a major US air base, did not directly link the intercepted threats to Iran.
Missile And Drone Threats Continue In Gulf
Gulf states, including Kuwait, experienced repeated missile and drone attacks during the recent US-Israel conflict involving Iran.
Although tensions eased following a ceasefire in April, regional security concerns remain high, with drones reportedly launched from Iraq towards Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia and Kuwait in recent months.
