Boris Johnson’s ineptitude during the pandemic led to thousands of deaths, claimed his former chief adviser Dominic Cummings. Testifying before a parliamentary committee, he claimed Johnson said that he would rather see “bodies pile high” rather than order a third lockdown in autumn 2020. He said the government was disorganised and unprepared and accused the health secretary of lying to the public and the government. Cummings said the “PM was not fit for office.” For his part, the prime minister has refuted the allegations claiming that he made an “incredibly difficult series of decisions none of which were taken lightly” and that “some of the commentary did not bear any relation to reality.”
