As Bangladesh goes through a political vacuum triggered by chaos and violence that led to Sheikh Hasina’s exit, what should India’s approach be?

Give Bangladeshis the space that they want, says Pankaj Saran, former Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh. “We should just let the post-Hasina days play out. And let the people there decide how they want to organise their immediate life,” he told StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale on ‘The Gist’.

The immediate priority there should be the restoration of law and order, said the former diplomat who has also been India’s Deputy National Security Adviser. Institutions there will have to be rebuilt, he added.
