Galwan Clash: Army Chief Visits Injured Troops At Leh Hospital

NEW DELHI: A week after the deadly clash between Indian and Chinese troops at the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh, India’s Army Chief General MM Naravane today visited the union territory to review the ground situation. 20 Indian soldiers laid down their lives in the line of duty on June 15 when they were attacked with iron rods, clubs studded with nails and barbed wire. Many others were injured. Today, Gen. Naravane paid a visit to the military hospital in Leh where the injured soldiers are recuperating. He enquired about their well-being, the facilities at the hospital and also the kind of injuries they suffered. Also, if they had spoken to their worried family members back home. It comes as a morale booster for the troops who despite being on hospital beds—nursing fractured arms, legs or head injuries—displayed unmistakable soldierly discipline that’s integral to the Indian Army ethos. Around dusk last Monday, Chinese troops attacked an Indian Commanding Officer and two soldiers. The Indian side gave a fitting reply and the physical fight continued till midnight. There were casualties on both sides but the Chinese side is yet to reveal how many of its troops were killed or injured.
