NEW DELHI: Two months ago, the Indian government announced its intent of carrying out the much-anticipated reforms in Defence by naming a Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and creating a Department of Military Affairs (DMA). Both have their tasks cut out and clear timelines has been set. The idea is to eliminate duplication and red tape, optimise defence resources and improve the battle readiness of the country’s armed forces by promoting greater synergy among the various arms.
