NEW DELHI: The latest agreement between Russia and China gives the latter an opportunity to access the Russian Far East which has huge reserves of oil, natural gas, and mineral resources.

From a security perspective, the port provides China a potential naval base in the Pacific.

In 2019, India & Russia had agreed to open up the Chennai-Vladivostok Maritime Corridor during PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Vladivostok.
