Following the Four Nations Face-Off Finals where Canada defeated its arch-rival US in Boston, Justin Trudeau took a dig at Donald Trump. The outgoing Canadian PM said, “You can’t take our country and you can’t take our game”.
Trudeau posted this on X, shortly after Canada won the ice-hockey match. This was in reference to Donald Trump expressing his interest in “taking over” Canada and making it the 51st state of the United States.
Hours before Canada’s victory, Trump posted on Truth Social, reiterating the same. He said, “I’ll be calling our GREAT American Hockey Team this morning to spur them on towards victory tonight against Canada, which with FAR LOWER TAXES AND MUCH STRONGER SECURITY, will someday, maybe soon, become our cherished, and very important, Fifty First State.”
In his post, he further said that he won’t be available to watch the game. The post said, “I will be speaking before the Governors tonight in D.C., and will sadly, therefore, be unable to attend. But we will all be watching, and if Governor Trudeau would like to join us, he would be most welcome. Good luck to everybody, and have a GREAT game tonight. So exciting,” he added.
Trump has repeatedly called Trudeau ‘Governor’ instead of Prime Minister. In response to Trudeau’s jab, Trump called the outgoing PM a “loser”. He said, “We won the first game. The second game was a great game. We could have gone either way. Justin’s a loser. Always has been. I think he’s done a very bad job for Canada. … Justin’s sort of a nice guy, but he’s a loser.”
As reported by ABC News, Canada beat the United States 3-2 with an overtime goal to win the 4 Nations Face-Off at TD Garden. The participating teams included NHL hockey stars from Canada, Finland, Sweden, and the United States.
The finals were narrowed down to a fiery clash between the US and Canada, earlier this month on February 15. That match was won by the US with a score of 3-1.
