NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to commission INS Vikrant, India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier, on September 2. This will put India in a select club of nations that have the capacity to design and develop aircraft carriers. When fully operational, the warship will significantly scale up India’s maritime capabilities, especially in the Indian Ocean Region.
