NEW DELHI:Russia’s foreign minister Sergey Lavrov is in India with, it seems, not just the war in Ukraine on his mind. With Western sanctions biting, Lavrov maybe hoping to work out ways in which India could expedite payments for Russian arms and equipment already supplied or in the pipeline.
This may not be as easy as some reports make it, argues Prem Mahadevan of the Switzerland based think tank Indo-Swiss Future Leaders Forum. In a chat on The Gist, Mahadevan looks at the options for Russia and India and with his ringside view of the conflict, gives a sense of how this war could be going.
Could India be asked to help end the war? Perhaps but as he points out, mediation has never been India’s forte and it is something this country is acutely uncomfortable with.
