Campaigning has begun for the race to decide Japan’s next prime minister with elections due on 29th. Four candidates are in the fray including, unusually, two women. Minister for vaccinations Taro Kono is considered the frontrunner with his ambitious plans to reform the ruling LDP. Close behind is foreign minister Fumio Kishida, seen as a hawk on defence. Former interior minister Sanae Takichi wants a stronger military while late entrant Seiko Noda wants an inclusive society.
