A suicide bombing targeted a military convoy in Pakistan‘s North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, killing 13 soldiers and injuring 10 others, along with 19 civilians, a local government official said on condition of anonymity, as he was not authorised to speak publicly.

The attacker rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the convoy, triggering a powerful blast that also damaged nearby homes.

“The force of the explosion caused the roofs of two houses to collapse, injuring six children,” a police officer stationed in the area said.

While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, North Waziristan has been a long-standing hotspot for militant violence, particularly involving the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The bombing comes amid a sharp rise in militant violence across Pakistan, especially in the volatile provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

In March, the Pakistani military reported killing 10 suspected TTP militants after a suicide bombing targeted a Frontier Corps camp near South Waziristan’s Jandola checkpost, according to Geo News.

In the same month, militants from the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) attacked the Jaffar Express train near Gudalar and Piru Kunri, killing 21 passengers and four paramilitary personnel.

Pakistan continues to grapple with escalating terrorism, with the Global Terrorism Index 2025 reporting a 45% surge in terrorism-related deaths—from 748 in 2023 to 1,081 in 2024—placing the country second globally in terrorist fatalities.
