State-owned carrier Nepal Airlines has come under criticism after sharing a “network map” on social media that incorrectly depicted the entire regions of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as part of Pakistan.

The post, shared on Wednesday, quickly went viral on platforms including X and Facebook, drawing strong reactions from Indian users.

Airline Issues Apology

Within 24 hours, Nepal Airlines issued an apology, describing the map as containing “cartographic inaccuracies”.

“We sincerely apologise for the error in the network map recently shared on our social media channels,” the airline said in a statement.

“The map contained significant cartographic inaccuracies regarding international boundaries that do not reflect the official stance of Nepal or Nepal Airlines.”

The airline confirmed that the post had been removed and that an internal review was underway.

Diplomatic Sensitivities

The airline added that it values its relationships with regional partners and regretted any offence caused.

“We deeply value our strong relationships with our neighbours and friends in the region and regret any offence the post has caused,” it said.

The depiction of Jammu and Kashmir remains a highly sensitive issue in South Asia, often drawing swift reactions when international entities publish maps that diverge from India’s official position.
