More than 90 people were reported drowned when an overcrowded fishing vessel capsized off the coast of Mozambique, authorities were quoted as saying.
The tragedy took place in NAMPULA province in northern Mozambique, more than 2000 km from the capital MAPUTO in the south.
–The vessel was on its way to an island with reportedly 130 people on board, when it capsized … five survivors have been found
–The incident may have been driven by people escaping a wave of cholera that is sweeping Nampula
–So far 15,000 cases have been reported and 32 deaths notified
–The incidence of cholera may have got accentuated with the arrival of people from the northern most province of CABO DELGADO to escape a jihadist insurgency
