Laos Deputy PM Heads To India For Key Bilateral Talks

Laos Deputy Prime Minister Thongsavan Phomvihane will visit India from 1–3 June for high-level talks and the 10th India–Laos Joint Commission Meeting with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Laos, Thongsavan Phomvihane, will pay an official visit to India from 1–3 June 2026.

He will be accompanied by his spouse, Mrs Vadsana Phomvihane.

The visit underscores the growing engagement between India and Laos and is expected to provide an opportunity to review bilateral cooperation and explore new avenues of partnership.

10th Joint Commission Meeting

During the visit, Thongsavan Phomvihane will co-chair the 10th India–Laos Joint Commission Meeting alongside India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar.

The meeting is expected to assess progress in bilateral relations and discuss cooperation across a range of sectors, including trade, connectivity, development partnership, capacity building and regional affairs.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

The Joint Commission Meeting serves as the principal mechanism for reviewing and advancing ties between India and Laos.

The visit reflects both countries’ commitment to strengthening diplomatic engagement and expanding cooperation within the framework of India’s Act East policy and its broader engagement with Southeast Asia.
