North Korean leader Kim Jong Un personally attended the test of an upgraded 240mm rocket launcher system, state media reported on Wednesday. The state news agency KCNA highlighted that the system demonstrated “superiority in mobility and strike concentration” during its inspection testing.

Advances In Military Technology

This test follows Kim’s earlier oversight of new “suicide drones” tests earlier in the week. During these tests, Kim urged researchers to focus on developing artificial intelligence for these unmanned vehicles, signalling North Korea’s ongoing push to advance its military capabilities.

Allegations Of Arms Transfers To Russia

In recent months, US and South Korean officials have accused North Korea of supplying Russia with various military equipment, including artillery shells, missiles, and other weaponry. These supplies are reportedly being used by Moscow in its war on Ukraine. South Korean Defence Minister Shin Won-sik revealed that North Korea has shipped over 12,000 containers to Russia between last year and August 4th of this year. These shipments included several types of shells and rockets, as well as dozens of short-range missiles.

Despite these allegations, both Moscow and Pyongyang have denied any involvement in arms transfers. However, both nations have committed to strengthening their military relations.

Strengthening Ties Between North Korea And Russia

As part of ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation, a Russian delegation, led by the vice minister of industry, held talks with North Korean officials on Tuesday. The discussions focused on further developing economic cooperation between the two countries, according to KCNA.

The deepening ties between North Korea and Russia come amid growing international scrutiny and concerns over the potential implications for regional and global security.
