A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck China’s southwest Guangxi region early on Monday, killing two people and forcing more than 7,000 residents in the city of Liuzhou to evacuate.

Chinese state media said rescue and search operations were continuing as authorities assessed damage and monitored transport infrastructure in the affected areas.

Buildings Collapse And Residents Evacuated

According to state broadcaster CCTV, 13 buildings collapsed following the earthquake.

Officials confirmed two deaths, while one person remained missing.

Four others were taken to hospital, though authorities said none of the injuries were life-threatening.

The earthquake triggered large-scale evacuations across parts of Liuzhou as emergency teams moved residents to safer areas.

Rail And Transport Disruptions

Railway authorities warned of possible transport disruptions while inspections of railway infrastructure were carried out.

Officials checked rail lines and nearby facilities for structural damage following the tremor.

Despite the earthquake, state media reported that communication systems, electricity supply, water services, gas pipelines and road traffic were largely operating normally in the affected region.

Rescue Operations Continue

Emergency responders remained at the scene on Monday as teams searched for the missing person and cleared debris from collapsed structures.

Authorities have not yet released details on the full extent of property damage or whether aftershocks are expected.
