China Warns Philippines, US Not Party To South China Sea Dispute

China

A spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry warned the United States on Wednesday, asserting that it is not a party to South China Sea issues. The spokesperson also cautioned the Philippines that seeking support from other countries could provoke confrontation and destabilise the region.

US Pledges Support to the Philippines

In a significant show of support for Manila, the United States has pledged $500 million in funding for the Philippines’ military and coast guard. This move comes as the Philippines faces increasing Chinese actions in the disputed waters of the South China Sea.

China’s Position on US Involvement

Lin Jian, spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry, reiterated China’s stance on the matter. “China has repeatedly stated its position that the United States is not a party to the South China Sea issue and has no right to intervene in maritime issues between the two countries,” he said. China maintains that the US should not involve itself in the maritime disputes of the region.
