‘India, UK Now Dealing With Differences, Not Denying Them’

NEW DELHI: Next week, Rajnath Singh is scheduled to travel to the United Kingdom, and he will be the first Indian defence minister to do so in 22 years. “Till now, the focus of both countries has been on trade; the defence minister’s visit to the UK is an attempt to correct this, put more focus on the defence and security aspects of the relationship,” says Rahul Roy-Chaudhury, Senior Fellow for South and Central Asian Defence, Strategy and Diplomacy, at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). Political differences, especially on the Khalistani extremism issue, remain but it’s a big step forward that the two countries are dealing with those differences rather than denying them, he told StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale on ‘Talking Point’. Tune in for more.
