NEW DELHI: Bangladesh marks the golden jubilee year of its independence this year. It also coincides with the birth centenary year of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, regarded as the father of the nation of Bangladesh. It all began with the political and military elite of West Pakistan denying Rahman his due of becoming the Prime Minister of undivided Pakistan after his party swept the parliamentary elections held in December 1970. That led to a string of events in East Pakistan that ultimately led to the creation of Bangladesh the next year, as StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale details in the concluding episode of the two-part special series on ‘Simply Nitin’.
