The Journey Towards A More Cohesive Military, 3 Years On

NEW DELHI: Nearly three years ago, India appointed Gen. Bipin Rawat as its first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). One of the key targets was to bring about jointness among the three services to ensure optimal use of resources. Gen. Rawat had set out his priorities and was working towards them till he died in an air crash a year ago. After a long wait, the government appointed Gen. Anil Chauhan as his successor a couple of months ago. He too has hit the ground running, holding several rounds of meetings with the top brass of the three services. So where exactly is the military now on the road to theaterisation? In this episode of ‘Ask Nitin’, StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale explains.
