Israeli troops and police stormed the Al Aqsa mosque complex on Monday firing tear gas, rubber bullets and throwing stun grenades at worshippers. The Palestinian Red Crescent said more than 180 people were injured with 80 hospitalised and one in critical condition.
The violence came ahead of parades and celebrations to mark the capture of East Jerusalem in the 1967 Arab- Israeli war. The city was then annexed to Israel, an act not recognised by the international community.
