Russia’s worst shooting incident saw a teenage gunman kill nine persons, seven of them children, at a school in Kazan, capital of Tatarstan southeast of Moscow. The shooting began in the morning and amateur footage showed people and children jumping from second and third-storey windows. Twenty others, including 18 children, were hospitalised.
Police were able to detain the gunman, identified as Ilnaz Galyaviev, a student at the University of Management who had been expelled a month ago for poor academic performance. President Putin expressed his deep condolences and has ordered a review of gun ownership laws.
