The United Nations has said it is “deeply concerned” over the violence in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, East Jerusalem and Israel. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva demanded that Israeli security forces allow full freedom of expression and assembly.
These remarks come in the wake of the killing of 22 Palestinians, including nine children, by Israeli forces in Gaza on Tuesday. The latter were retaliating for more than 200 rockets fired into Israel by the armed group Hamas from the Gaza Strip. At least six Israelis have been reported injured. Israel has used air strikes, including by armed helicopters, on Hamas targets, reportedly killing 15 Hamas commanders.
