Over 80 per cent of Japanese, in an opinion poll, said the Tokyo Olympics should either be postponed or scrapped, given the surge in Covid-19 infections. The Olympics are scheduled to be held in Tokyo from July 24 and medical experts are warning of shortages and strain on the health care system.
The survey was carried out by the newspaper Asahi Shimbun, with 43 per cent of respondents wanting the games cancelled and 40 per cent in favour of postponement. A month ago, a similar poll gave the figures as 35 per cent favouring cancellation and 34 per cent preferring that the games be put off.
