What Fuelled Kazakhstan’s Street Protests?

NEW DELHI: After a week-long deployment in Kazakhstan amid the Central Asian nation’s worst street protests since its independence nearly three decades ago, a Russia-led military coalition has begun withdrawing its troops. The entire process may take nearly 10 days. Last week, the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) sent in troops at the request of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev after protests over a spike in car fuel prices drew people onto the streets.
