The panel discusses the Biden-Putin virtual summit, the U.S. President warning of strong economic consequences if Russia invades Ukraine and President Vladimir Putin demanding legally binding security guarantees that rule out any eastward expansion of NATO. The two-hour virtual summit is being seen as an important step to defuse tension on the Russian-Ukrainian frontier, where Moscow has deployed up to 100,000 troops. Russia says it sees Ukraine’s growing alliance with Western nations as a threat to Russian security — and that any move by Ukraine to join NATO or to host NATO missiles would be unacceptable. U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has also said the Nord Stream 2 pipeline’s future is at “risk” if Russia does invade Ukraine.
