Strong India-Russia Ties Emphasised
During the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed the strong strategic partnership between Russia and India in a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two leaders embraced on the sidelines of the summit, underscoring the warm relations between their countries.
Modi Advocates Peaceful Solutions To Conflicts
Addressing the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s long-standing position on resolving disputes through dialogue. He conveyed to Putin that India supports peaceful solutions to conflicts, stating, “We have been in touch with all sides in the Russia-Ukraine problem. India believes all conflicts can be solved with dialogue and is always ready to help bring peace.”
BRICS Summit And Global Interest In Membership
The BRICS summit, hosted in Kazan, includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Modi congratulated the grouping for its growing influence, highlighting that many nations have expressed interest in joining BRICS. At the end of the summit, a “Kazan Declaration” will formalise the addition of five new BRICS members, further expanding the group’s global reach.
Modi’s Second Visit To Russia This Year
This marks PM Modi’s second visit to Russia in 2023. Earlier, he attended the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit in Moscow in July, where he held a bilateral meeting with Putin. During that visit, Modi was also honoured with Russia’s highest civilian award, the Order of St Andrew the Apostle, at the Kremlin, further strengthening the bond between the two nations.
