Ambassador Wadhwa discusses India’s participation and role at the highest level at the G7 Summit in Germany closely following the BRICS, Quad and Nordic Summits this year, the G7 extending support to Ukraine for ‘as long as it takes’ while increasing sanctions on Russia for its invasion, moves to cap prices for Russian oil, the unveiling of a $600 billion plan to rival China’s Belt and Road Initiative in developing nations, PM Modi asserting “energy access should not be the privilege of the rich only. A poor family also has the same rights on energy when costs are sky-high due to geopolitical tensions”, food security, clean energy technology, bilaterals with other invitees including South Africa, Indonesia, Argentina and Senegal, the significance of other plurilateral and more inclusive groups like the G20 and President Trump’s proposal at the last summit for an expansion of the G7 to the D10 to include India, Australia and South Korea.
