China, South Korea Must Expand Common Interests, Says Wang Yi

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasised the importance of China and South Korea avoiding external interference and expanding their common interests during talks with South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul on Friday. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Laos.

Wang Yi called for both nations to seek common ground and engage in activities that enhance mutual trust. “We should do more things that are conducive to enhancing mutual trust,” he said, according to a statement from the Chinese foreign ministry.

Both ministers agreed to maintain close and strategic communication to ensure peace and stability on the Korean peninsula. This was confirmed by Seoul’s foreign ministry, highlighting the shared commitment to regional security.

Concerns Over China-Russia Ties

Cho Tae-yul expressed grave concern over the growing ties between Russia and China, urging Beijing to play a constructive role in promoting peace in the region. This concern reflects the broader geopolitical tensions affecting the region.
