NEW DELHI: As the India-China standoff continues in Ladakh and the winter deepens, India is shoring up its strategic partnerships inviting Australia to the Malabar Exercise next month and tying up military logistics agreements with a number of countries including possibly the UK in some weeks,  Does that mean the India-China relationship is in free fall, never to recover?

In this exclusive chat with StratNews Global in the context of the standoff and the US elections, Gautam Bambawale who served as ambassador in Beijing, warns that the going ahead will be tough given the uncertainty over China’s intentions.  As he points out, it’s not every day that a head of state plays nice with another head of state only to backstab him after an informal summit. In that sense, there is no trust left and clearly, there cannot be any more informal summits.
