Prominent Russian lawmakers dismissed Sundayโs European leadersโ summit in London, stating it offered no plan to resolve the Ukraine war.
Konstantin Kosachev, writing on the Telegram messaging app,e said the only thing Ukraine could count on was an improvement in Russian-U.S. ties.
The Russian lawmaker derided the outcome of the London summit as โa desperate attempt to pass off as success the failure of a 10-year policy of inciting Ukraine towards Russia by the same Great Britain and, until recently, the United Statesโ.
โEurope Has No Planโ
โEurope has no plan,โ wrote Kosachev, head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Russiaโs upper house of parliament.
โAnd if Ukraine should count on something, it can only be on progress (if there is any to come) in Russian-American relations.โ
He said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who hosted the meeting, โcannot fail to understand thisโ.
Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the lower houseโs Committee on International Affairs, said the meeting would not save Zelenskyyโs position two days after his talks in Washington with President Donald Trump broke down in acrimonious exchanges.
โThe London summit will not save the ringleader of the Ukrainian Nazis,โ Slutsky wrote on Telegram. โZero results, a failed attempt to restore the clownโs political reputation after his resounding failure in Washington.โ
Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, now a senior security official, dismissed the London gathering before it had ended, describing it on X as a โcovenโฆ to swear allegiance to the Nazi nobodies in Kievโ and a โshameful sight.โ
Starmerโs Peace Plan
Starmer, speaking after the meeting, said participants had agreed to draw up a Ukraine peace plan to take to the United States. Starmer said Britain, Ukraine, France and other nations would form a โcoalition of the willingโ to produce a plan.
Zelenskyy said he felt strong support from Europe. He said he could salvage his relationship with Trump but that talks needed to continue in a different format.
