U.S. President Donald Trump is set to receive a high-level briefing on potential military action against Iran on Thursday, according to a report by Axios.

The briefing will be delivered by Brad Cooper, who leads U.S. Central Command, the report said, citing unnamed sources.

Plans Include Strike Options

Among the proposals is a plan for a “short and powerful” wave of strikes targeting Iranian infrastructure. The objective would be to pressure Tehran into greater flexibility in nuclear negotiations.

Hormuz and Ground Operations Considered

Another option under discussion involves taking control of parts of the Strait of Hormuz to restore commercial shipping through the critical route.

Such an operation could involve the deployment of ground forces, according to the report.

Special Forces Mission Also on Table

Officials are also expected to present a plan for a special forces operation aimed at securing Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium, Axios said.

Senior Military Leadership Involved

Dan Caine, United States Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is also expected to attend the briefing.

The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the report.
