The jobless rate in China for those under 30 in urban areas, excluding college students, rose in March, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics.
The increase marks a reversal of the downward trend seen since September last year, signalling renewed pressure in the labour market.
Youngest Group Hit Hardest
Among those aged 16 to 24, the unemployment rate climbed to 16.9% in March, up from 16.1% in February.
For the 25 to 29 age group, also excluding students, the jobless rate rose to 7.7%, compared with 7.2% a month earlier.
Broader Labour Market Stable
In contrast, unemployment among those aged 30 to 59 remained relatively stable, edging up slightly to 4.3% from 4.2% in February.
Ongoing Employment Challenges
The data highlights persistent challenges in China’s youth job market, even as overall unemployment remains comparatively steady. Younger job seekers continue to face difficulties amid a slowing economy and structural shifts in hiring.
