Donald Trump is not normally associated with either religion or prayer. But in what experts say is a bid to raise money: the former president’s latest venture is to sell Bibles ahead of Easter. Describing the Bible as his “favourite book” Trump urged his followers to “Make America Pray Again.” According to AP, the Bibles which also contain the US Constitution and the Declaration of Independence are being sold for $59.99.
Trump is hoping to energise his base which consists of Evangelical Christians to raise money to help pay his legal fines. He has been ordered by the New York County Supreme Court to pay $454 million for legal fines and interest in a judgement in February. Since then, he has been looking for ways to make cash. Trump’s social media company Truth Social made its debut on Nasdaq on Tuesday and now he is selling Bibles.
In what will come as a relief to the former president, a New York appeals court ruled that Trump can fulfil a bond of $175 million within ten days rather than paying a total of $464.576 million at once. Trump has to provide a bond to this effect within 10 days which he has said he will do. Once the bond is posted, Trump’s assets cannot be seized by US Attorney General Letitia James as was earlier the case.
Trump’s lawyers had filed on March 18 that they were unable to pay the entire amount of $464.576 million at once. They had proposed a bond of $100 million instead. Trump still has to pay the full amount, according to a spokesperson with the New York Attorney General’s office.
The former president has hit out against the court’s decision in a post on Truth Social on March 25 and charged that the judgement and fine amounted to “election interference.”

These Radical Left Lunatics and Communists ask me to pay a ridiculous and completely unheard of fine of over $450,000,000 only because they saw a similar amount in my bank account. I had intended to use much of that hard earned money on running for President. They don’t want me to do that — ELECTION INTERFERENCE!”
Trump has already had to pay other fines including $83.3 million to E Jean Carroll. The former president called her a “liar” after she accused him of rape. He has also appealed this fine.
