Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing is expected to visit India soon in what will be his first overseas trip since assuming the presidency in April, according to sources familiar with the arrangements.

The visit is likely to mark a significant diplomatic engagement between India and Myanmar amid evolving regional security and political developments.

Min Aung Hlaing, who also heads Myanmar’s military leadership, formally assumed the presidency earlier this year.

India-Myanmar Engagement

The planned visit comes as India continues maintaining strategic ties with Myanmar, particularly on border security, connectivity and regional stability.

Myanmar shares a long and sensitive border with India’s northeast, making cooperation on security and infrastructure important for both countries.

Regional Significance

The trip is expected to draw attention across the region given Myanmar’s ongoing political crisis and international scrutiny following the military takeover in 2021.

It also signals continued diplomatic engagement between New Delhi and Naypyidaw despite broader geopolitical tensions.
