Aseefa Bhutto, daughter of the newly-elected President Asif Ali Zardari, is poised to become Pakistan’s First Lady, marking a historic first in the nation’s history, reports ARY news. This will be the first time the title is bestowed upon a president’s daughter, rather than his wife.

The 31-year-old Aseefa is the youngest daughter of the late Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan’s first female Prime Minister, and President Zardari. She has been a rising star within the influential Bhutto-Zardari family, often seen at her father’s side over the past decade.
Following Benazir Bhutto’s assassination in 2007, the position of First Lady remained vacant during President Zardari’s first term (2008-2013). Aseefa’s appointment fills this gap and signifies a new chapter for the role.

Aseefa made her political debut in 2020, actively campaigning for her brother Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in the February 2023 elections. She played a prominent role in rallies, garnering support for Bilawal’s bid for Prime Minister.

Zardari, who was sworn in as President for the second time on Sunday, has long expressed his desire to involve his children in the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), particularly in leadership roles. Reports suggest Aseefa may have a stronger inclination towards Bhutto family politics compared to her siblings.

Aseefa has cultivated a strong public presence, accompanying her father to numerous political events, galas, and rallies. Notably, she joined him in 2012 to visit Malala Yousafzai, the young activist shot by the Taliban.

Aseefa maintains an active social media presence, commenting on Pakistani politics through her Facebook and X accounts (formerly Twitter). Her role as Pakistan’s polio eradication ambassador has made her a familiar face to the public.
