Three Indian nationals working at the Diamond Cement Factory in Kayes, Republic of Mali, were abducted on July 1, 2025, during a violent attack by armed assailants. According to reports, a group of unidentified gunmen stormed the factory premises and forcibly took the Indian workers hostage.
The incident occurred as part of a wider series of coordinated terrorist attacks targeting military and government installations across western and central Mali.
MEA Expresses Deep Concern, Condemns Incident
India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has expressed deep concern over the abduction. In an official statement, the MEA strongly condemned the act of violence and called it “deplorable”.
The Government of India urged the authorities in Mali to take immediate and necessary steps to ensure the safe and early release of the abducted Indian nationals.
Senior officials of the MEA are closely monitoring the situation and remain in constant touch with relevant agencies.
The Embassy of India in Mali’s capital, Bamako, is actively engaged with the local law enforcement authorities and the management of the Diamond Cement Factory.
Indian diplomats are also in contact with the families of the kidnapped individuals and are providing updates and support. The statement underlined that securing the safety and welfare of Indian citizens abroad continues to be a top priority for the Indian government.
Advisory Issued For Indian Citizens In Mali
In light of the deteriorating security situation in Mali, the MEA has issued an advisory urging all Indian nationals in the country to exercise extreme caution.
Citizens have been asked to stay alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and remain in touch with the Embassy for regular updates.
The ministry has reassured families and the general public that all possible efforts are being made to ensure the safe return of the abducted individuals.
“The safety, security and welfare of Indian nationals abroad remains a matter of utmost priority for the Government of India,” the MEA said in its official statement. “The Ministry shall continue to extend all possible support and remains committed to ensuring the safe return of the abducted Indian nationals at the earliest.”
