NEW DELHI: Did the US knowingly and cold bloodedly put into play a plan that led to the Taliban overrunning the country and taking Kabul without firing a shot?
Gautam Mukhopadhaya, India’s former ambassador to Kabul (2010-13), suspects that the US will now seek to destabilise the region to block the advance of China, Russia and Iran. Pakistan may well be collateral damage in the process, India too.
In this conversation on The Gist, Ambassador Mukhopadhaya says there is no doubt US policies in Afghanistan have been short-sighted and overly solicitous to Pakistan. This even though Pakistan was backing the Taliban and other Jihadi groups targeting US forces.
