In a strong show of solidarity following recent terrorist incidents in India, Argentine Ambassador to India, Mariano Caucino, expressed his country’s unequivocal support in the global fight against terrorism.

Earlier this week in an exclusive conversation with StratNews Global, Ambassador Mariano extended condolences and reaffirmed his country’s historical stance against extremism, recalling Argentina’s own experiences with terror.

“First of all, I think we have to convey our message of support to India,” said Ambassador Mariano. “Argentina and India stand together against terror. We have been victims of terrorism. You know that Argentina is a country that suffered two terrorist attacks in 1992 and 1994. The first one was against the Israeli Embassy, and the second targeted the Jewish community center. Together, they killed more than 100 innocent people.”

He recognized the persistent threat of terrorism in certain regions of India and stressed the emotional and political significance of solidarity. “We know what’s going on. When a country like India suffers terrorism—sometimes on an almost daily basis—we stand with you. Our thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives, and we hope the governments are able to prevent and prosecute those responsible.”

Responding to questions, Ambassador Mariano advocated for stronger multilateral cooperation, noting the critical role of platforms like the G20 in confronting global security threats. “We are members of the G20, and we are convinced that this platform should be used to analyze, to study, and to take measures globally with the main actors regarding the prevention and reduction of terrorist activities,” he stated.

While acknowledging that terrorism is an evolving threat that may never fully disappear, he insisted that determined international efforts must continue. “Terrorism evolves, unfortunately—it changes its methodology. But the use of terror as a political weapon has existed since the world began. Governments must act to prevent it, reduce it to its minimum expression, and fundamentally prosecute those responsible. States that sponsor terrorism must be punished—they pose a threat to global peace and security.”

One of the cornerstones of effective counterterrorism, according to Ambassador Mariano, is mutual trust and intelligence sharing between nations. “Some countries have information, and that information must be shared. But you can only share information when you trust. Without trust, cooperation is impossible,” he said.

The conversation also touched upon the broader India-Argentina bilateral relationship, especially their 75-year diplomatic milestone and collaboration across strategic sectors such as energy, food security, and rare minerals.

“Argentina may be far from India—20 hours away by flight—and from different cultures. But we share values, and that’s more important. Fighting terrorism is not only about geographic proximity but about standing for human rights, safety, and dignity,” he said.

Despite the physical and cultural distances, the Ambassador remains optimistic about enhancing India-Argentina cooperation. “Whether it’s trade, security, or nuclear collaboration, trust is the foundation. And I think we’re building that well,” he noted.

“There must be global consensus to identify and isolate states that provide safe havens to terrorists. Without accountability, deterrence fails,” he said.
