Tropical Cyclone Seroja swept through Indonesia’s remote south west islands triggering floods and landslides and killing an estimated 119 people. Reports say rescue teams have landed on the worst hit Aldonara and Alor islands and have fanned out searching for survivors.
There have been problems moving heavy equipment necessary to dig through mud that have engulfed whole villages. Cold hardened lava blocks displaced by the landslides and floods have added to the difficulty of movement.
