Taiwan has reported the largest ever incursion by 25 Chinese air force aircraft including nuclear capable bombers, into its air defence identification zone. The incursion appeared to coincide with new U.S. guidelines that will enable its officials to meet more freely with their Taiwanese counterparts.
Taiwan’s Defence Ministry said fighters were despatched to intercept and warn away the Chinese aircraft, while missile systems were also deployed. The Chinese aircraft flew over an area close to Taiwan’s Pratas island in the South China Sea. The islands are also claimed by other littoral states.
