An Appeals Court in Belgium has confirmed the 20-year prison sentence on an Iranian diplomat who was found guilty of plotting to bomb a rally by the National Council for Resistance in Iran, in 2018. The rally was being organised outside Paris in neighbouring France. Belgian police foiled the attack when they intercepted a car carrying the bomb, heading for the rally.
Curiously, the lawyer for the diplomat named Assadollah Assadi never turned up to file the appeal. The court then returned a verdict confirming the conviction and sentence. Tehran has protested Assadi’s conviction.
