NEW DELHI: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who addressed a massive rally after returning from exile to a rousing welcome on October 21, has made it clear that Pakistan could only progress if there was peace with its neighbours. The fact that he did this with the omnipotent military’s blessings is significant, says Azaz Syed, a Islamabad-based journalist with Pakistan’s largest media network, the Jang-Geo group. In a wide ranging chat, Syed also examines the prospects of Imran Khan, the popular former prime minister and leader of the Tehreek-e-Insaf, who was indicted by a special court on October23 for leaking classified documents, and that of the Pakistan People’s Party led by Bilawal Bhutto, in the elections now slated for end of January 2024.
