‘Political Disunity In Kabul Is Having A Dire Impact On Security Force Morale’

NEW DELHI: On ‘The Gist‘, Ali Yawar Adili, Country Director & Researcher, Afghanistan Analysts Network in Kabul in conversation with StratNews Global Associate Editor Amitabh P. Revi. “Political logjams over appointments are just a case in point in terms of disunity and how it could affect the planning and mobilisation against the Taliban,” he says, while listing out the causes of rapid Taliban advances across the country. “Poor management on the part of the leadership of the security forces,” their “decisions to abandon certain outposts and withdraw” is being “interpreted as defeat,” Ali points out, adding his insights into what’s being called the “second resistance” from regional and ethnic leaders mobilising their militias, “which the government is still trying to deal with.” There are “growing calls from different quarters of Afghan society for India to play a more active role, ” he says, adding, “every country is trying to maintain their own interest in Afghanistan. There should be a role beyond just that.”
